HOW DO I CLEAN MY LEATHER BAGS?

A leather bag is the product of a centuries-old tradition carried out by skilled craftsmen: so treat it well. Your top 3 concerns should be cleaning, conditioning, and how to store your leather bag. Here are a few tips we learned along the way:

CARE OF LEATHER BAG IN 3 STEPS

SUPPLIES:

- Soft, clean cloth

- Leather cleaner

- Leather conditioner

- Parchment paper or bubble wrap

- Dust bag

1. HOW TO CLEAN YOUR LEATHER BAG

Make sure you clean your leather bag with clean hands. Because bags made of leather are sensitive to absorbing grease and oil.

Do a quick clean every other day by thoroughly wiping your leather shoulder bag, briefcase or backpack with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. (Do not use too much water; leather takes time to dry.)

Perform a deeper cleaning once or twice a year to remove dirt buildup. Wipe down your leather bag with a cleaner made specifically for leather. Apply in circular movements and wipe with a slightly damp cloth to avoid clogging the pores of the leather.

2. HOW TO CONDITION YOUR LEATHER BAG

Leather conditioner is like a moisturizer for your leather bag. Without this, the leather will dry out over time.

To prevent flaking and wrinkling, apply leather conditioner to a soft cloth and gently rub the entire bag.

Depending on the dryness or humidity of your climate, apply conditioner at least twice a year to once a month to keep your leather bag soft and supple.

3. STORING YOUR LEATHER BAG

Fill your leather bag with bubble wrap or parchment paper (but not newspaper, as it will smear) to restore and maintain its shape.

Place your filled leather bag in the original dust bag and then store it in the original box along with the silica gel bags to prevent moisture.

Air your leather bag once every two weeks to prevent mold growth.

CAUTION

Make sure that no water soaks into the leather. If your bag gets very wet, wipe off the excess moisture as quickly as possible. do not dry the leather with a hairdryer; let it air dry and then apply a leather conditioner.

Do not use cleaning products that contain alcohol, as they will dry out your leather bag and possibly discolor it.
